You should simply be open and gather as many impressions as possible. The rest will come naturally.

Nadine has long dreamed of discovering Latin America - and now this dream has become reality! With WanderWorld Travel, she embarked on an adventure full of new impressions, unforgettable encounters and personal development. From working in hostels to exploring the impressive nature of Costa Rica and the vibrant streets of Medellín: Nadine's journey was characterized by openness, joie de vivre and countless moments that she will never forget. She was particularly impressed by the warm-hearted people, the colorful culture and the breathtaking landscapes between the beach and the jungle.

My preparation time

I had always wanted to travel to Latin America one day, as I have long been fascinated by the culture and way of life. I finally booked four months before departure and I particularly liked the choice of project locations. I wasn't actually afraid of the trip at all, I was mainly excited. Talking to the WanderWorld Travel team really helped me to feel well prepared.

The first days

At first everything was pretty new and I didn't know where to go, but after just a few days I met lots of nice new people. The first impression was overwhelming, but positive. On the introductory day, we walked through the city and ate ice cream. I was also a little overwhelmed in the project for the first few days, but after a short settling-in phase that was no longer a problem. I would say it took me about five days in each project to settle in, although the many other volunteers in the second project made it even easier.

I worked both at the bar and at reception. I always particularly enjoyed interacting with guests from all over the world. I learned how to mix cocktails at the bar - skills that I will definitely take home with me. My project managers were always very nice and the collaboration was very positive.

During the project, I mostly spent my free time with friends on the beach or exploring restaurants and bars. A particular highlight in Costa Rica was a trip to the national park, where I took part in a horseback ride to a beautiful waterfall. In Colombia, I also visited Tayrona National Park, as well as Medellín, Minca and Palomino. Medellín was definitely my favorite and I remember it as a great city with a lot of history and experiences.

My experience with culture

People in Latin America are always very open and loud - a bit different to what you know from home. My favorite experience was a concert by Carlos Vives, where I went with a group of friends and afterwards we all went dancing together. The concert was a good example of the open and loud nature that I got to know.

My most beautiful moments

I was particularly impressed by my time in Medellín! However, I was also able to attend the 500th anniversary celebrations in Santa Marta, which was also a unique experience. I will also remember the time I spent there with a friend I met in Costa Rica.

My favorite place

Apart from the places I have already mentioned, I also found Minca exceptionally beautiful. I was very impressed by the landscape and especially the waterfalls - as well as the friendly nature of the people there. The nature is truly breathtakingly beautiful.

My accommodation

I was always accommodated in shared rooms - something you have to get used to at first due to the lack of privacy. But after a while that was no longer a problem. In the doorms, I lived with both hostel staff and guests.

Why I love Latin America

I was very impressed by the openness and warmth of Latin America and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. Above all, the nature on the beaches and in the mountains was beautiful and only strengthened my love.

Security on site

I actually felt very safe - even if, as in any other city, you should be careful where and with whom you go out and not walk around alone in the evening.

How the trip changed me

I am very happy that I was able to have this experience. I was able to gather so many wonderful impressions that have also helped me a lot personally.

My tips for future participants

You should simply be open and gather as many impressions as possible. The rest will come naturally. If you want to meet new people, whether tourists or locals, it's definitely worth the trip.
