I have learned that you don't need many things in life to be happy. Sometimes less really is more.
My apprenticeship as an insurance and finance clerk was slowly coming to an end and I often asked myself the question: What about working all my life? No! I wanted to experience more beforehand and really feel the sense of freedom. So I quickly came to the conclusion that I would like to go abroad and do it alone. I didn't want to travel to a typical western country, I wanted to experience something completely different. And above all - discover a lot of unique nature and the great diversity of wildlife. I had started planning six months earlier and for a long time I hadn't really been able to realize what I had in mind. However, WanderWorld had prepared me very well for this trip and it was definitely the best decision to plan my first big solo trip with this organization. I would do it again and again. I had the best support from start to finish and could turn to them with any questions. Whether before or during the trip, the support was always there.
A week before my departure, I felt a little queasy, but the feeling was immediately gone on my arrival day in Lima, Peru, when I arrived at the hostel and got to know the first people. It felt so surreal for the first few days, being so far away from home. But I got used to the new surroundings so quickly because I got to know such great people at the hostel, who I am still good friends with today. Carlos also gave me a great introductory day and showed me some great places in Lima and, of course, the delicious Peruvian cuisine.
The Amazon in Peru, it was a childhood dream of mine to see the Amazon once in my life. I had previously met two great people in Cuzco, with whom I traveled there together. Of course, that made the trip even better than it already was. This place changed so much in me. You had no network, so you were in the middle of nature, which was just so magical. One night I was lying in the meadow near our camp with my friends and we were watching the stars, shooting stars were falling every few seconds. I will never forget that.
I felt very safe in all three countries. Even though so many people tried to convince me before my trip that it was very dangerous to go to Latin America alone as a woman. The only problem was that none of these people had ever been to these countries themselves. I also spent a lot of time on my own, went on excursions or went out with friends in the evening. There was never a problem, but I would still advise everyone not to show their valuables in public, at least that's what the locals always advised me. And listen to your gut feeling, sometimes it's better to take the money and call a cab instead of walking home alone at night. I never had any problems as a result.
This trip has definitely broadened my horizons, I have gained such interesting insights on my journey and met such great people. It has inspired me so much on every level. I also learned that you don't need a lot of things in life to be happy, I was much happier when I saw a sunset on the beach than when I had bought myself material things. Sometimes less is more. I also learned one thing on this trip, listen to your heart. This trip was the first time I had really done that without listening to anyone else. And it was the best time of my life. In the future, I want to make traveling an even bigger part of my life. I am very proud that I dared to travel Latin America alone for five months. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience real freedom.
My stay in Latin America was really made so special by the people. This culture is so incredibly beautiful and the people are so warm and open. And the landscapes in Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru are so incredible. Such great diversity! No comparison to what is in Germany. I would describe Latin America with the following three words: Colorful, Magical, Freedom. In the future, I would like to visit Peru a second time, revisit some places and discover new places in this beautiful, big country. It has definitely become one of my favorite countries. I was also inspired by many travelers to visit Guatemala and Colombia.
