Project description

Welcome to surfer's paradise! Did you know that Tamarindo is one of the 10 best places in the world to learn to surf? On the beautiful Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the water temperature is pleasantly warm all year round and there are perfect waves for surfing almost all year round. Surfing is the most popular sport in Costa Rica, which is why many tourists are drawn to this beautiful country every year. Tamarindo is one of the most popular surfing hotspots. The beautiful beaches not only make surfers' hearts beat faster. As the size of the waves varies daily from morning to evening, both pros and beginners can let off steam on the board and enjoy their favorite activity for hours every day. In Tamarindo, everything revolves around surfing: One surf store follows the next and the bars are already talking about tomorrow's perfect wave in the evening.

This surf camp, run with a lot of passion, offers surf lessons, surfboard rentals, tours, packages, and accommodations at the boutique hotel of the same name. Many guests stay at the camp for 1–2 weeks and book packages that include daily surf lessons and overnight stays at the hotel. The camp is located in a prime beachfront location, right on Tamarindo’s main surf break. Our partner surf school is one of the oldest and most popular in Tamarindo, having been in operation for over 30 years. The boutique surf camp also maintains very high standards and features a beautiful hotel. We especially love this surf school because it combines European professionalism with Costa Rican laid-back charm 😊.

At the surf camp, you have the great opportunity to learn to surf directly from the pros. You get your first surf lesson for free and you can always use the equipment for free in your free time. Enjoy the relaxed life on the beach and the pura vida vibes. Get to know surfing enthusiasts from all over the world and take the country and culture of Costa Rica to your heart.

Tasks

You'll get to experience life and work in a tropical paradise abroad and spend your free time on the beach every day. Learn to surf firsthand—your first surf lesson is free.

At the project's own hotel, you'll staff the front desk and help with room reservations and guest check-ins. Before check-in and after check-out, you'll carefully inspect each room. You'll show guests to their rooms and ensure the surfers are comfortable.

Another part of your volunteer work is serving as a camp host. Together with the team, you’ll make sure that guests feel completely at home—even when they’re not surfing—and can enjoy their stay in Tamarindo to the fullest. You’ll help plan and organize group dinners, outings, or social evenings at a bar in Tamarindo. This way, you’ll create opportunities for travelers from all over the world to connect with one another. With your open and helpful nature, you’ll contribute to a relaxed and family-like atmosphere at the camp and help make every guest’s stay an unforgettable experience. In doing so, you’ll become part of an international community and gain valuable experience interacting with people from a wide variety of cultures.

You’ll also be staying in one of the beautiful, high-standard shared rooms at the surf camp’s hotel. Once a week, you’ll help with inventory and the inspection rounds through the hotel. When interacting with guests, customers, and staff, it’s especially important that you’re always friendly, attentive, and respectful. This also includes appropriate attire, punctuality, and a sense of responsibility.

In your free time, get on the board yourself and become a surf pro. Enjoy the breathtaking sunsets on the beach and visit the numerous bars and restaurants.

Program location

TAMARINDO

Tamarindo is Costa Rica's absolute surfer's paradise! For all pros, as well as for those who want to learn. The small town in the north of Costa Rica owes its reputation to the dream beaches that invite you to surf and the variety of hotels, restaurants and bars. With pleasantly warm water all year round, there is no better place than Playa Tamarindo to catch the perfect wave. Water sports such as swimming, surfing or fishing during the day and vibrant nightlife at sunset. There are also numerous other beautiful beaches just a few kilometers away, such as Playa Conchal.

Playa Grande beach in the Marino Las Baulas National Park is also very close by. The national park is a protected area and owes its name to the Baula turtle. These magnificent giant turtles, the largest marine reptiles in the world, come to Playa Grande in large populations between November and April to mate and lay their eggs. During the day, however, the beach is open for swimming and surfing.
