They were introduced to the Poverty many families, which led her to the decision to help the many children who do not belong to the School can go.
Many Guatemalan families have more than 4 children. Unfortunately, poverty often means that they cannot afford the time and money required to send their children to school. There is also a lack of schools and teachers, so not all children have the privilege of going to school. The founders of the project immediately realized that only a good education can improve the future of the children and Guatemala. Thanks to the support of donations and volunteers from all over the world, three schools have already been built in recent years. 500 children and young people have the opportunity to attend school every day and are given the chance of a better future. The schools place particular emphasis on a comprehensive and future-oriented education and the English lessons has a high priority. English is not taught at all in most state schools, but young people can get better jobs with it later on.
The schools not only offer traditional lessons in all relevant subjects such as Spanish, English and mathematics, but also teach students how to use the Computer is brought closer to the pupils. In an increasingly digital world, the necessary knowledge in this area is essential. At home, families often have no access to the internet and do not have a computer. During the breaks, the pupils can work off their energy through sport. They also receive psychological support and attention if necessary, Love and recognition. The schools also rely on cooperation with social workers who support the families in matters of education. In addition, the children are provided with all the materials they need free of charge: school supplies, books, pens, but also snacks and lunch.
The schools survive on donations and the commitment of many volunteer from all over the world. The help of the volunteers is particularly needed in the Pre-school classes needed. In Guatemala, kindergarten children aged 4-6 are taught before they start elementary school. The schools teach the little ones half of the day in Spanish and the other half in English. Lessons take place from 7:30 am to 12 noon. You will assist the Teaching English when teaching, for example when doing handicrafts, painting or working on worksheets. We often sing songs together in English to teach the children the vocabulary for the body parts, colors or animals in a playful way. You can play games with them or read simple books. Each class has around 25 schoolchildren, which means that the games can be quite colorful. Afterwards, you will help the teachers to put the classroom back in order and prepare the materials for the next lesson. If you want to take the initiative, you are welcome to teach English yourself or give a presentation about your background and culture.
In the morning, the children have 1 hour Breakhere you look after them at the Play in the schoolyard and act as their contact person. Help the little ones to wash their hands and eat their snacks before they go back to class.
Do you already have a solid knowledge of Spanish? Then you can also interact a lot with the teachers and help plan and prepare the lessons.
In the afternoon there will also be a After-School ProgramHere you can offer various workshops depending on your skills and interests. Your creativity is in demand! Because how you Workshops is up to you. Whether it's group games, arts and crafts, dancing or handicrafts, the main thing is that it's lots of fun! Or are you more of a sports fan?
