The mission of the project is to promote the growth and development of the skills of children and young people with educational difficulties in schools. As part of the project, volunteers work in several schools in the Chame district. Through targeted Lessons, educational games and leisure activities specific support is offered to meet the individual needs of the students. The aim is to provide children and young people with the necessary tools to achieve lasting academic success while giving them a sense of personal fulfillment. To have a positive impact on their lives and help them realize their full potential.
In many parts of Panama, it is unfortunately commonplace for children and young people with significant Faced with educational difficulties are. This is often due to the limited resources and lack of support available to them. However, education is a fundamental human right and a decisive factor for individual and social development. Without adequate education, these children and young people have only limited opportunities to develop their potential and lead a better life.
In view of these challenges, a local NGO was set up to tackle the problem. This includes tutoring and support in basic subjects, educational workshops, educational games, recreational activities and home visits to families on the support list.
The continuation of the project is based on the active cooperation of volunteers. Volunteers play a vital role by giving their time, knowledge and skills to help students. They work closely with teachers and the community to create a positive learning environment and provide students with the support they need.
Academic support: You will work at the school from Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm or from 12:20 pm to 5:20 pm. You will provide academic support in the students' classrooms to improve their development and learning progress. You will help the teachers during English, math, Spanish, geography or art lessons. In supporting the students, you can keep them company while they learn, help them with questions, show them appropriate learning methods and tools and respond to the children's needs.
Workshops: As a volunteer, you also have the opportunity to develop and lead supplementary educational activities and thus make a significant contribution to the community. You can also organize workshops on topics such as recycling, emotions, sports or environmental protection. The school wants the workshops to be an opportunity to learn, share, have fun and break out of routine. It is therefore important that every volunteer taking part in the project brings at least one suggestion for a workshop. This suggestion can be related to your talents, hobbies or topics such as sports, sewing, art, yoga, gardening, recycling, self-knowledge and culture. Simply bring an idea that you yourself pursue in a hobby, such as a sport.
As a volunteer with the organization, you also have the opportunity to get involved in many other areas. For example, there is also a Sports programwhere you can support the sports teachers. The municipality of Chame is located on the Pacific coast, 76 kilometers from Panama City, in the west of the country. The town center is located about 6 km from the sea and on the Chame River. Many people live from artisanal fishing and agriculture, where products such as coconut, banana, tamarindo and pineapple are grown.
The beautiful landscapes, beaches and mountains also attract tourists to this place. In recent years, tourism has become increasingly important as more and more people want to discover the natural beauty of the region. The beaches, such as Playa Coronado, Playa Gorgona and Playa Malibu, are popular destinations for locals and tourists. The region also offers numerous opportunities for nature and outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, bird watching and water sports. You can go on excursions into the mountains and dense rainforests, relax on the beach, take a boat tour or jump into a waterfall.
Chame is a tropical place with a warm and humid climate all year round, with an average temperature of 29 °C. There is also a rainy and dry season. There is also a rainy and dry season.

You do not need to have any experience in the social sector to take part in the project. However, you do need a basic knowledge of Spanish (at least A2), as the children speak little English and you will be supporting them with their Spanish lessons.
Of course, you should enjoy working with children and young people and be motivated and independent. Social skills, empathy and self-confidence are an advantage when working with people. You will be working a lot with locals. You should be open to getting to know a new culture and everything that goes with it.
In order to participate, you must submit a police clearance certificate before the start of the project.
The national language in Panama is Spanish. You will spend a lot of time with locals who do not speak English. A good basic knowledge of Spanish (at least A2) is therefore a prerequisite. If you currently have no knowledge of Spanish, we recommend that you take part in a language course, which we will be happy to organize for you.
The organization provides all volunteers with a simple house in the center of the village of Chame. The house offers space for up to 18 volunteers in three shared rooms with bunk beds and is equipped with all the necessary amenities for a pleasant stay. There are two bathrooms, a communal kitchen and a living room. The house is very simple and furnished to the usual standard in Panama. For example, there is no hot water, which is not necessary given the high temperatures. There is also a laundry facility. All volunteers live together in the house and there is always a nice and familiar community.
The organization will provide you with three delicious meals a day from Monday to Friday (dinner only Monday to Thursday). At the weekend, you can prepare your own meals in the communal kitchen or try out one of the local restaurants.
Several schools in the Chame district are supported as part of the project. You can reach the schools from the volunteer house by public transport in about 5 minutes, or walk for 20 to 30 minutes. The transportation costs by bus amount to about 1.50 $ per day and are to be paid by the volunteer.
