Project description

Our eco-friendly farm is located on the outskirts of Antiguaour favorite city in Guatemala - and makes the heart of every nature lover and creative mind beat faster. The farm has set itself the goal of creating a sustainable and Sustainable agriculture and grow and sell their own produce. They also look after animals in need and care for puppies, cats, goats and other animals. The farm is a place of community, a reliable meeting place and a secure workplace for many locals and volunteers. The aim is to teach young Guatemalans in particular sustainable skills that will help them in their own lives and in society.

The idea of Self-sufficiency is implemented on the farm in a creative, innovative and modern way. For example, the farm grows and cultivates its own food and has set up a sustainable water supply system using rainwater and groundwater - all with the help of a specially created solar energy supply system. In the long term, the model of our farm should serve as a model for other farms in Guatemala and thus improve the general standard of living of many Guatemalans by creating jobs and selling food.

The aim is to grow food according to the Model of the ancient Maya happen. The owner has an incredible knowledge of the culture and cultivation methods of the high culture and is happy to explain everything about the exciting methods. The farm is spiritually oriented and the cultivation of vegetables is carried out according to the lunar calendar.

Do you like looking after Animals? Many animals such as dogs, cats, goats and chickens are looked after and cared for on the farm. There is also a small apiary where you can gain your first experience of making honey.

On the farm, everyone can contribute their own strengths and skills, regardless of whether they are already talented or want to learn something new. Often Creativity because fascinating art projects are always being designed and realized on the farm. The days fly by and working together brings the farm community even closer together.

And that's not all - the founders of the farm are also committed to helping socially disadvantaged young people and run a Soccer club. Soccer is not only the most popular sport in Guatemala, it also gives young people the chance to develop discipline and ambition. Do you like playing football yourself? Then you can certainly learn a thing or two here - or show the locals the ropes. In addition to soccer, the focus is also on other sports - yoga classes, capoeira and much more are offered regularly.

In addition to your work on the farm, you have the opportunity to take part in various courses or Workshops to gain valuable experience and perhaps discover a new hobby. For example, Fridays For Future activities, eco-art workshops, campfires, second-hand markets and recycling workshops. The owners of the farm are always keen to offer exciting activities for the volunteers so that you never get bored.

For us, the farm is one of the most beautiful in Antigua. Nevertheless, the farm survives on donations, investors and volunteers. You too can be part of this great project! Embark on a journey to beautiful Guatemala and experience an unforgettable time on the eco-farm.

Tasks

As a volunteer, you will not only make a positive difference to the lives of Guatemalans, but also to your own. After all, the experiences gained in this project are unforgettable and unique, and will stay with you for a long time to come. You will work alongside locals who earn their living on the farm and other volunteers from all over the world. Here you will quickly establish valuable contacts, make enriching friendships and improve your Spanish language skills.

The areas of responsibility are diversefrom agriculture, handicrafts, art and animal care to beekeeping and floriculture. The main task is to Care and the Agricultural maintenance. Vegetables, fruit and many other plants are cared for and cultivation is constantly expanding. For example, you can plant, water and harvest lettuce, onions, cucumbers, herbs and mushrooms. From time to time, flowers and herbs are also harvested and processed into homemade tea. You will help with growing and planting new seedlings and finally also with harvesting. Here you like to get your hands dirty and it can be exhausting at times. New beds are also created, for which the soil first has to be dug up and the beds built. Here, too, you can provide active support.

Another main task is the Animal care. Dogs, cats, goats, bees, butterflies and chickens live on the farm. You will help with feeding and mucking out the barn. You can look after the little baby cats and dogs with lots of love, feed them, brush them, bathe them and play with them. If you are interested in beekeeping, you can help with this.

The farm also provides Art from recycled and natural materials and you can contribute to the beautification of the farm by painting, painting and creative ideas.

You can also use the farm with videos and pictures for Social Media and distribute flyers in the city to promote the farm.

The tasks are very Flexible and everyone can bring their own interests and skills to the day-to-day work. Regardless of whether you already have experience in gardening and agricultural work, whether you enjoy working with your hands or creatively, whether you prefer to work with plants or animals - there is something for everyone and your help is greatly appreciated.

Program location

Antigua

Antigua is perfect for a work and travel adventure and makes every traveler's heart beat faster. It's not just the beauty of the city and the surrounding nature that makes the city so popular. Above all, it is the flair that prevails here. Antigua is a magnet for young people from all over the world - many who have traveled here once have stayed right away. The owners of the countless restaurants, cafés, bars and hostels come from all over the world, and the atmosphere is correspondingly international. You can hear 1,000 different languages in the bars and quickly make new friends from all over the world.

In addition to the work in the project, Antigua offers many opportunities for colorful leisure activities. Climbing the surrounding volcanoes is an experience that you will probably never forget. A weekend trip to Lake Atitlan is just as worthwhile.

You can find more information about Antigua here.

Prerequisites

You don't need any special previous knowledge for the job on the farm. You should enjoy working in nature and have the motivation to improve agriculture in a sustainable way. Openness to new cultures is also particularly important to us. Living in a foreign country always requires a certain willingness to adapt, which will be very rewarding for your development.

You should also be open to a spiritual way of life and be keen to learn the Mayan way of cultivation.

Independent work is required on the farm! You have a lot of freedom to choose for yourself in which areas you would like to help. Nevertheless, you should be able to recognize independently where help is needed and complete tasks without guidance.

Language

The national language in Guatemala is Spanish. You will be dealing with locals who do not speak English. Basic knowledge of Spanish is therefore of course an advantage, but not a prerequisite for taking part in the project. You will automatically improve your language skills on site.

To ensure that you acquire the necessary knowledge and are well prepared for the successful completion of your project, we recommend that you take a Spanish course beforehand or at the same time. The course and accommodation during the language course are not included in the program.

A basic knowledge of English is essential for communication between the volunteers and the management.

Accommodation and meals

You can choose whether you would prefer to stay in a guesthouse or with a Guatemalan host family.

Our guesthouse is located on the outskirts of Antigua. Here you can choose to be accommodated in a shared room with other participants and guests or in a single room. The shared rooms have their own bathroom, up to four single beds, a sofa and a desk. The single room shares the bathroom with two other people and is located in the corridor right next to the room.

The guesthouse has a lovely communal area and a kitchen where the volunteers enjoy cooking together. The highlight is the large roof terrace, from where you can watch the surrounding volcanoes.

On the eco-farm, a daily lunch is included in the program from Monday to Friday. The communal kitchen in the guesthouse is available for breakfast and dinner.

The center of Antigua is just a few minutes' walk away. There are many restaurants, bars and cafés in the area. You can walk to the farm in around 30 minutes.

Depending on availability, you will stay in a guesthouse or comparable accommodation.

Our host families are personally selected by us. You live in a single room with the family and usually share a bathroom. Meals are included from Monday to Friday. All host families live in Antigua and the farm is within walking distance.
