Quick Facts

Our volunteer projects in Indonesia

Children's aid projects

Due to Indonesia's size, there are many rural and remote regions in the country. High-quality education is therefore not available everywhere. In these areas in particular, access to education is crucial to empower the local population and promote more resilient communities.

This is exactly where our community projects come in. By offering free education, children are supported in their development and encouraged in their physical and mental growth. In particular, the children are informed about nature conservation measures and given prospects for the sustainable use of habitats. Through your involvement in the social projects, you can actively contribute to imparting knowledge, highlighting opportunities and thus promoting sustainable development.

Children's aid projects in Indonesia

The English Teaching Project in Indonesia helps children and young people from local rural communities to learn English. With your commitment, you ensure that the children and young people have better opportunities for development.

The volunteers will be active directly in the local schools and support the teachers. The approach is to teach English in a fun and practical way, with interactive games, quizzes, singing and dancing. Volunteers can give free rein to their creativity and get actively involved at any time. In addition, the project informs the children about the threat to the rainforest and conservation measures in order to show them sustainable ways for the future. Your involvement not only improves the educational opportunities for the children and young people, but also opens up new prospects and opportunities for the future. You will quickly become part of the local communities and get to know Indonesian culture at first hand.

Nature and environmental protection projects

Indonesia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. However, the diverse ecosystems are threatened by deforestation, overexploitation and forest fires. A very high demand for resources such as palm oil, wood fibers and industrial metals promotes this development. The nature conservation projects in Indonesia make an important contribution to preserving the unique ecosystems, which are habitats for many animal and plant species and the basis of life for the local population. One focus is the restoration of tropical forests through reforestation projects. Another is the involvement and support of local communities. Through environmental education programs, people are shown alternative, sustainable land use and income opportunities. With your support, you help the projects to protect Indonesia's nature in the long term and strengthen local communities in their environmentally friendly measures.

Nature & environmental protection in Indonesia

The clearing of forest areas for agriculture and the palm oil industry continues to pose a major threat to tropical forests and their flora and fauna in Indonesia. This is where nature conservation projects come in to counteract this development. In the Rainforest Conservation Project in Kalimantan, Borneo, employees are working with local communities to reforest the tropical forests. The programs are aimed at developing the surrounding villages in order to demonstrate that agroforestry and organic farming can also provide alternative sources of income. The aim is to preserve the habitat and endangered animal and plant species in the long term.

Polluting industries are also a major problem for ecosystems in northern Sumatra. In the Eco Farming Project education is seen as a key to change. Through access to free education, residents are shown opportunities to find work in sustainable sectors. Organic farming is used to grow healthy food while protecting the soil, water and climate.

Animal welfare projects

In Indonesia, deforestation, clearing for palm oil and rubber plantations and the construction of roads are leading to the destruction of habitats. Wild animals are being driven further and further away from their natural habitats and are more easily targeted by poachers and animal traders. Refuges and food sources are becoming scarcer and more and more animals and birds are under threat.

By volunteering in Indonesia, you can support projects that are committed to the protection, care and rehabilitation of wild animals. Through your involvement in the projects, you also make an active contribution to the conservation of natural habitats.

Animal welfare projects in Indonesia

You will help with daily project activities such as wildlife monitoring, habitat maintenance, reforestation and organic farming. In addition, community development is a focus of the project work. You will assist with English lessons to give the residents the opportunity to be active in sustainable practices such as ecotourism.

In the heart of Bali, the Wildlife Rescue Project a sanctuary for endangered wild animals, most of which were previously kept as pets or for entertainment. The primates and birds are cared for in the rehabilitation center and, if possible, released back into their natural habitat. During your volunteer service, you will support the project team in their daily activities to provide the animals and birds with the best possible care. You will actively contribute to animal welfare and learn a lot about Balinese biodiversity and tropical habitats.

On the small island of Nusa Penida, the Bird Sanctuary Project community-based nature conservation and development projects. By working with the villages on the island, endangered bird species are protected and habitats restored. You will support the project team in all activities that are carried out for the benefit of the communities and their development. Land of volcanoes

Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has more volcanoes than any other country in the world. The more than 120 active volcanoes stretch from west to east across the entire country and shape the landscape, the people and their spirituality. They are considered to be places of power and a connection between the earth, the sky and the gods. Accordingly, there are many festivals, rituals and legends in Indonesia that revolve around the mountains of fire. People also benefit from the fertile soil that is deposited on the slopes of the volcanoes and is ideal for agriculture. The landscapes around the volcanoes are also unique habitats for animal and plant species, which are also preserved through volunteer work in Indonesia. At the same time, the volcanoes also harbor dangers. Eruptions occur again and again and cause earthquakes, lava flows, mudslides or tsunamis. The activities are constantly monitored and so the volcanic landscapes offer travelers a real adventure to feel how alive our earth is.

Dream beaches and underwater worlds

The island paradise offers countless wonderful places, and the coasts of Indonesia are among the most beautiful in the world. Secluded bays, turquoise waters and beautiful sandy beaches invite you to relax and enjoy the laid-back island life. At the same time, and often directly from the beach, you have the opportunity to dive into one of the most biodiverse underwater worlds on earth. Colorful coral reefs and schools of tropical fish make snorkeling and diving in Indonesia a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. You will swim with sea turtles and manta rays and experience the colorful hustle and bustle of untouched reefs. A tropical biodiversity that is second to none and that you can discover particularly well alongside your volunteer work.

Unity in diversity

17,000 islands, 700 ethnic groups, 300 languages - Indonesia is a country of diversity. Under the national motto „Unity in Diversity“, efforts are being made to unite the country's great cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. The diversity in Indonesia is reflected in its centuries-old traditions. Every island and every region has its own history. Whether Hindu ceremonies in Bali, Javanese art and music or colorful customs in Eastern Indonesia. No matter where you travel, you will always discover and get to know new things, new ways of life and new atmospheres. The principle of „unity in diversity“ is intended to promote tolerance and dialog and create a common Indonesian identity. What everyone has in common is the deep warmth of the people. As a guest, you will be welcomed with open arms and encounters are warm and respectful. Volunteering in Indonesia will give you the experience of quickly immersing yourself in communities and sharing traditions. A feeling of real belonging.

Helping where help is needed

Many regions in Indonesia are facing major ecological challenges that not only endanger the local flora and fauna, but also have a direct impact on the lives of the communities. Species-rich areas and habitats such as rainforests, coral reefs and coastal areas are under severe threat. Every year, large areas of forest are lost due to deforestation, plantation farming and illegal logging, which endangers rare species such as orangutans and Sumatran tigers, as well as the livelihoods of local communities.

By volunteering in Indonesia, you can make a valuable contribution directly. For example, in educational projects, environmental initiatives or programs for animals and communities. Your work helps to improve living conditions, strengthen educational opportunities and support communities in the long term. At the same time, you will gain an insight into the lives of local people and experience their great gratitude and warmth at first hand. In this way, you provide support where help is needed.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION

in the project

In our volunteer projects in Indonesia, you will stay in accommodation that gives you an authentic insight into local life, often in the immediate vicinity of local communities. The accommodation is simple but comfortable and offers everything you need for your stay.

In the Teaching project In rural North Sumatra, you will live together with other volunteers in a sociable and informal atmosphere. The shared rooms are separated by gender, with shared bathrooms. The huge roof terrace invites you to relax and spend evenings together, where new friendships are quickly formed.

In the Rainforest Conservation Project In Borneo, you can expect accommodation that you share with employees and other volunteers. Each accommodation has bathrooms with toilets and showers. During your stay, meals are freshly prepared on site - ideal for eating together after an eventful day and getting to know new people.

A traditional wooden house with comfortable rooms awaits you at the Wildlife Sanctuary Project in Bali. Equipped with shared bathrooms, a communal kitchen and a dining room around a wonderful natural garden. It's a wonderful place to spend sociable evenings together.

No matter which project you choose, you will always live on the project site and share everyday life with the local staff and other volunteers. The close proximity to local villages allows you to immerse yourself in the Indonesian culture and way of life.

Why is volunteering in Indonesia worthwhile?

We at WanderWorld Travel know Indonesia very well and have many years of experience of the country, its people and its challenges. In addition to the breathtaking island world, fascinating culture and incredible biodiversity, there are also issues here where support is urgently needed. These include the loss of valuable rainforests due to deforestation, the threat to marine ecosystems, endangerment of animal species and their habitats as well as social inequality and a lack of educational opportunities in rural regions. This is precisely where our projects come in.

By volunteering in Indonesia, you are making a valuable contribution, be it in environmental and animal protection or in social programs. Even if you cannot change the world on your own, you will be supporting long-term initiatives that promote ecological stability, protect resources and help communities to develop sustainable paths for their future.

As an experienced travel agency, we accompany you on your journey with our knowledge and passion. We know the partner organizations personally, support you in your preparations and are at your side throughout your trip. This allows you to concentrate fully on what really matters: your experience on site and your contribution to people, animals and nature in Indonesia.
