Quick Facts

Our volunteer projects in Sri Lanka

Children's aid projects

Sri Lanka is a country with a rich culture, warm-hearted people and impressive nature, but it also faces social challenges. In many rural areas, children have limited access to quality education and hardly any opportunities to develop their abilities freely. Yet education is a crucial key to a self-determined future.

This is precisely where our education projects in Sri Lanka come in. They support schools and community initiatives to give children better learning opportunities and promote long-term development. As a volunteer, you can actively help to shape lessons, offer creative activities and give pupils courage and prospects. Your commitment will help to close educational gaps and make a lasting difference to young people's lives.

Children's aid projects in Sri Lanka

Our Teaching program in Sri Lanka is aimed at anyone with a heart and commitment to children and education. In Akuressa, a quiet community in the south of Sri Lanka, you will work with different age groups and create learning opportunities that go beyond regular lessons.

One focus is on English lessons, creative workshops and evening classes for adults who previously had few opportunities for further education. This creates a safe space in which children and young people can develop self-confidence and discover new perspectives. You are not only immersed in the everyday life of the community, but also actively contribute to bringing education closer and promoting long-term development.

By volunteering, you can ensure educational opportunities for communities without access and be part of the change in Sri Lanka. Your ideas and passion are welcome and will make a real difference.

Nature and environmental protection projects

Nature conservation projects in Sri Lanka make a decisive contribution to preserving and sustainably strengthening the country's fragile ecosystems. The focus is on protecting biodiversity, preserving natural habitats and promoting organic farming. One particular example of this is the Farm Experience project, in which volunteers work on a sustainable farm and thus make an active contribution to environmental protection.

Ecological cultivation methods, reforestation and the conscious use of natural resources protect habitats and strengthen the balance of nature. These measures also make an important contribution to the fight against climate change. By volunteering in Sri Lanka, you can help preserve valuable ecosystems and make a lasting difference for the environment and the community.

Nature & environmental protection in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, the protection of nature is the focus of dedicated environmental projects. This is also the case in Farm Experience Project in the south of the country. On a sustainable eco-farm, local teams and volunteers work together to conserve natural resources. Ecological farming, reforestation and environmentally friendly cultivation methods are used to protect valuable habitats and promote biodiversity.

In addition to growing fruit, vegetables and spices, there is a particular focus on replanting and protecting the soil. This creates a sustainable model that benefits both nature and the local community. By volunteering in Sri Lanka, you can actively help to protect the environment and climate and bring about long-term positive change.

Animal welfare projects

The natural habitat of wild animals in Sri Lanka is becoming increasingly restricted due to deforestation, the expansion of infrastructure and the effects of climate change. Animal welfare projects help to provide animals with a habitat in which they receive the best possible care and are treated with respect.

Elephants in particular often suffer a cruel fate in Sri Lanka. They are often exploited in everyday life and in tourism, where they have to carry heavy loads, have limited access to food and water and are often subjected to physical violence. As a result, they not only suffer physical damage, but also psychological problems and often do not even reach their natural age.

In our Elephant project in Kegalle you will support our partner organization in the care and maintenance of elephants away from mass tourism and elephant riding. You will have the opportunity to experience unforgettable encounters with people and animals by learning about everyday project tasks and at the same time gaining unique insights into the local culture of Sri Lanka.

Animal welfare projects in Sri Lanka

If you love animals and want to get actively involved in their protection, volunteering in Thailand offers you unique opportunities. You can support elephants, wild animals, dogs and cats in various projects and help to improve their lives in the long term.
Whether in the jungle, in rescue centers or animal shelters, you will work side by side with experienced animal welfare officers, help with care and support and actively campaign for the preservation of biodiversity.

In the Elephant Care Project you will work directly with Asian elephants and support them in their everyday life and rehabilitation. You will help with feeding, daily management, care and simple health-related tasks. The aim is to protect and promote these majestic animals - while respecting ethics, species-appropriate husbandry and the environment. In this way, you can actively contribute to elephant conservation in Thailand.

Surrounded by the tropical nature of northern Thailand, the Wildlife Rescue Project a safe haven for injured and orphaned wild animals. Here, birds, reptiles and small mammals are given medical care, looked after and prepared for their return to the wild. As a volunteer, you will help with feeding, care and rehabilitation. In this way, you not only support individual animals, but also actively contribute to the protection of biodiversity and their habitat.

In the Animal Care Projectt in northern Thailand, you look after injured, abandoned and neglected dogs and cats. In a small animal shelter near Chiang Rai, around 50 animals receive protection, care and medical treatment. As a volunteer, you will help with feeding, cleaning, grooming and socialization. The aim is to give the animals a sense of security and increase their chances of finding a new home. In this way, you will make a valuable contribution to animal welfare in Thailand.

Sri Lanka fascinates with its special atmosphere, which is immediately noticeable as soon as you set foot on the island. Lush green tea plantations, tropical rainforests, endless sandy beaches and temples dating back thousands of years characterize the image of this unique country. Here, cultural depth, lived spirituality and impressive nature come together to create an incomparable travel experience.

The warmth of the people, the living traditions and the diversity of the landscape make Sri Lanka a place that touches and inspires. Those who travel here not only experience the sights, but also the real life of a fascinating culture. Volunteering in Sri Lanka offers the chance to experience this diversity first-hand and at the same time make a valuable contribution to people, animals and nature.

Island of cordiality

Sri Lanka is known for its exceptionally warm-hearted and open people. Hospitality is not just a gesture here, but is deeply rooted in the culture. If you decide to volunteer in Sri Lanka, you will quickly notice that every encounter is characterized by a genuine smile and great interest. Whether in small villages, at schools or at local markets, travelers receive a friendly welcome everywhere. This warm atmosphere makes it easier to settle in, make contacts and become part of the community. Your work on site will create valuable connections that will last far beyond the duration of your stay. So your trip to Sri Lanka will not just be an adventure, but a real togetherness.

Natural paradise in the Indian Ocean

Sri Lanka inspires with its impressive variety of landscapes. Tropical rainforests, tea plantations, long sandy beaches and wild national parks characterize the country. This unique nature is not only beautiful, but also the habitat of numerous animal and plant species, from elephants to sea turtles. During your volunteer work in Sri Lanka, you will have the opportunity to experience these natural treasures up close and actively contribute to their protection. Hikes through green hills, boat trips through mangrove forests or excursions to protected areas make every day a special experience. Sri Lanka is a paradise for nature lovers and offers countless opportunities to consciously discover the country and its environment.

Between tradition and modernity

The cultural depth of Sri Lanka can be felt on every corner. Temples thousands of years old, impressive stupas, colorful ceremonies and colonial influences tell the story of a country that keeps traditions alive. Spirituality plays a central role in everyday life and creates a special atmosphere that immediately captivates visitors. As a volunteer, you can experience this culture in an authentic way, not just as an observer, but as part of everyday life. Whether at temple festivals, traditional handicrafts or encounters with locals, volunteering in Sri Lanka offers you the opportunity to get to know the country's cultural heritage intensively and personally.

Helping where help is needed

In Sri Lanka, many families, especially in rural areas, live in economically difficult conditions. A significant proportion of the population has only limited access to high-quality education, medical care and stable sources of income. Children from low-income families are particularly affected by this. Many schools have few staff and inadequate learning materials, which severely limits educational opportunities.

By volunteering in Sri Lanka, you can help to do exactly that. In educational projects, environmental initiatives or programs to strengthen local communities, you can help people to improve their living conditions in the long term. Your commitment opens up new perspectives for children, promotes development and strengthens cooperation in the communities. At the same time, you get to know people's lives up close and become part of a community that reciprocates your commitment with warmth and gratitude.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION

in the project

The accommodation in our volunteer projects in Sri Lanka allows you to fully immerse yourself in the fascinating culture and get to know local life. Some of them are simple, but all are cozy and offer you everything you need for everyday life.

In the Teaching project In Akuressa, you and the other volunteers have a whole floor in the project manager's house at your disposal. His family will be happy to include you in activities and welcome you as a member of the family, but you will also have the opportunity to withdraw and let all the impressions you have gained sink in.

On our Eco Farm it is similarly familiar. You live together with the family on the farm in a simple but lovingly furnished room, which you either have to yourself or share with another person. There are several kitchen areas where you are welcome to prepare culinary delights together.

There is a little more distance between your accommodation and our Elephant Care Project. You will stay in a shared room in a hotel complex just a few minutes' walk from the organization's office. The rooms are simply furnished and separated by gender, and offer the perfect base for your adventure.

Whichever project you choose in the end, all accommodation allows you to immerse yourself in local life and enjoy your stay to the full.

Why is volunteering in Sri Lanka worthwhile?

We at WanderWorld Travel have known Sri Lanka for many years and know how multifaceted, but also challenging, life on the island can be. The impressive natural scenery and rich culture conceal issues where support is urgently needed: social inequality in rural regions, limited educational opportunities for children and young people and the protection of sensitive ecosystems and endangered animal species.

Volunteering in Sri Lanka gives you the opportunity to get involved exactly where help is really needed. Whether in schools, environmental projects or animal welfare, your commitment strengthens local initiatives that work towards long-term positive change. Every helping hand contributes to creating opportunities and improving the living conditions of many people and animals.

We support you with our experience and our network of reliable partner organizations. This allows you to concentrate fully on your commitment and experience Sri Lanka intensively and authentically.
